Hi, my name is Erin Kay Warry, and I welcome you to my website and blog. I am twenty-three years old and a recent graduate of Wichita State University. I have a BA in creative writing and a minor in theater. I live in Kansas with my fiance and my many dragons. I should also mention I have autism.
I was diagnosed at the age of five and was specifically diagnosed with PDDNOS (pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified) when I was eleven. PDDNOS, autism, and Asperger’s are spectrum disorders. A spectrum disorder is a mental disorder that includes a range of linked conditions, sometimes also extending to include singular symptoms and traits. This means these diagnosis can fall under a spectrum of severity, hence why they are called “spectrum” disorders.
That is why I am writing this blog. I know that an autism diagnosis can come with stereotypes. I have been told by some I can’t possibly have autism because I have an active social life and because I “have emotion”. I want to show people that, just because I was diagnosed with autism, doesn’t mean I can’t do things that everyone else can.
On here you will find blogs about literature, my life with autism, and some of my own original fiction. I welcome all of my readers to discuss disability, art, and your own experiences. I will be writing about all the adventures I go on, the process of my craft, and anecdotes about my life with autism. We will even be diving into some historical figures that you may not know had autism. You may also see me write about things such as dragons, steampunk, and Dr. Who because, well, I’m a nerd.
Welcome to my world reader. I’m so happy that I get to share it with you.
